Boys Lacrosse fell short in the first round of the Division I CIF playoffs against St. Francis. The Mustangs put up a tough fight in regulation and forced an overtime but ultimately couldn’t secure a win to send them into round two.

“It was definitely a bummer that we couldn’t pull through a win,” senior midfielder and captain Dylan Fenton said. “We worked so hard this past season and we were excited to make it to the DI playoffs this year.”

Last season, the Mustangs were crowned CIF Champions in Division II, and according to Fenton they were excited and ready to move up to D1 this year. The Mustangs started off strong and the Defense made some clutch plays to set the game on the right note.

“When the game started we were confident that we could secure a win,” senior defender and captain Dash Seiffer said. “Although, St. Francis kept the game close and exciting.”

In the 3rd quarter the Mustangs starting goalie senior Zac Lachance was hit and taken out of the game. The Mustangs put in sophomore Peyton Mcalpine to defend the goal. According to Seiffer, Mcalpine made great saves and didn’t slack off.

“It was easy to work with Peyton and get him situated in the game quickly because he is a great player and teammate,” Seiffer said. “He worked well with the group and was a big factor in keeping the score so close towards the end.”

Late in the 4th quarter the Mustangs were up two points, but St. Francis was able to tie the game 16-16 to send it to overtime. The Mustangs gained possession in Overtime, took a shot, and missed, giving St.Franicis the opportunity to run down the field and score the game winning goal.

“It was so frustrating because bad calls by the refs were a huge factor in St. Francis scoring those last two goals to send it to overtime,” Fenton said. “In the end we just couldn’t deliver, but as a senior I’m extremely proud of our accomplishments as a team this past season, including winning Bay League for the 3rd year in a row. I can’t wait to see what the boys accomplish next season.”
