On Thursday, September 11th, Mira Costa hosted their annual Back to School Night from 6:00 to 8:15 pm, welcoming parents and guardians to walk their kids’ schedule and meet their teachers.
The evening began in the auditorium with a speech from Principal Dr. Jennifer Huynh, who welcomed families and introduced the school’s vice principals. Afterward, parents dispersed across campus to attend ten-minute class sessions. Each rotation gave parents the opportunity to understand the structure of their child’s school day and learn about class expectations.
“It was great to see parents so happy to walk their children’s schedule,” said ASB member Gavin Poliner. “I know my parents were really excited to learn about my classes and my teachers for the year”.
Costa’s Associated Student Body (ASB) members played a key role in making the night run smoothly. Adviser Ms. Lisa Claypoole organized the event with help of ASB President Lyla Poole, who picked up food and drinks for the snack table.
“It was fun being part of the event,” said ASB member Sammy Nammack. “Helping parents find their way and handing out snacks made the night feel more welcoming.”
ASB members were stationed at various areas throughout campus to assist parents throughout the night. Jobs ranged from running the snack and water table, working the student store, selling Costa apparel, running the entertainment table, or greeting parents.
Poliner took on the “balloon job” throughout the event. “People had balloons tied to their wrists with a question mark written on them,” said Poliner. “Each balloon person had a specific spot, and parents could come up to us and ask for help.”
Overall, the event was successful giving parents guidance and insight into their children’s daily lives.
