Social media constantly promotes websites and stores such as Shein, Temu, and Edikted. Influencers and celebrities convince many teens, especially at Mira Costa, that these stores are the new trend. Fast fashion may seem convenient as it is a cheaper option, but really, it’s just destroying our planet.
Fast fashion produces inexpensive clothes at a shockingly fast rate to meet the raging demands of society today. This type of fashion puts a large strain on the environment and our materials.
According to BBC news “Overall, the fashion industry is responsible for 8-10% of global emissions, according to the UN; more than the aviation and shipping combined.”
Global emissions aren’t the only consequence of fast fashion. Synthetic fabrics used to make the clothes contribute to ocean and plastic pollution even in the South Bay. Multiple Costa organizations revolve around the beach, considering Costa’s location. If caution isn’t taken soon, our oceans and beaches will not be clean, possibly affecting Costa and the rest of
these beach towns. This extreme waste is largely responsible for depleting resources from our
Planet.
“The environmental impact of fast fashion comprises the depletion of non-renewable sources, emission of greenhouse gases and the use of massive amounts of water and energy,” said Earth.Org.
It also causes waste overfilling landfills due to the production of clothes.
Since these clothes are made so fast.
