On Apr. 2, the Mustangs faced off against Ventura High School in CIF preliminaries round one defeating them 5-0. Costa continues to dominate, with their next match scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at Edison High School.
The Mustangs started off early putting pressure on the Cougars starting at the service line and in transferring offense.
“My partner and I used our service pressure to keep them off the net and out of system,” said junior Lily Sprague. “We also did our best to hit open shots and swings so we were able to score more effectively.”
The Mustangs supported each other throughout the game, boosting confidence making it easy to play according to Sprague.
“Our team always supported one another,” Sprague said. “They gave my partner and I a great environment for us to play our best game in.”
According to sophomore Siena Adzich, the Mustangs had exceptional ball control, giving them opportunities to capitalize. They continued to stay positive throughout the match and were willing to make errors and learn from them.
“We started off early with great ball control giving us open opportunities to beat the block.” Adzich said. “Throughout the game we made some mistakes, but we kept positive and were ok with them coming as long as we continued to execute other aspects.”
The Mustangs’ win against the Ventura Cougars marked their 12th consecutive win, with a record of 18-1. Earning them the ranking of 1st place in the state polls.
According to junior Simone Roslon, the team is super proud with the success they have achieved this season, but they strive for something greater.
“We are happy with our results as it shows the hard work we put into practice,” Roslon Said. “But this year we are aiming for a higher goal of CIF champs. We know the goal is possible if we continue to focus on execution and hard work in the games and practices we have left this season.”
