Local artist Bo Bridges releases new movie

For nearly three decades, Bo Bridges has captured the raw energy of life in motion. Known internationally for his action- sports photography, Bo’s roots run deep in Manhattan Beach, where his gallery on Highland Avenue doubles as a studio and museum.

Most people in the community know the name from his vivid portraits of athletes mid-air or frozen in the blur of speed but his relationship with the ocean sets his photography apart from the rest.

The “Big Wave: No Room for Error” was shown at the Cosm in Inglewood which was shot across some of the world’s most treacherous breaks – Jaws in Maui, Mavericks in Half Moon Bay and Nazarè in Portugal. His film doesn’t just show you the waves, it puts the audience in them.

The film follows Tahitian surfer, through the waters of Teahupo’o, where the last olympic surf competition was held. More footage was clipped from Nazarè, where the HBO series “100-foot wave” was filmed.

Through the underwater footage, Bridges places the audience in the heart of the ocean and action taken by risk taken surfers, like Heimiti Fierrotakes when he attempts to conquer the legendary waves of Teahupo’o.

Senior Micheal Butler states, “Watching the film in the venue made me feel like I was actually there watching the waves as if I was next to them on a surfboard.”

Cosm Inglewood dome theater is a “shared reality” experience which blends immersive visuals with special audio to create a 360-degree environment. This was the first surf project to team with the Cosm which is an immersive 65,000 square foot entertainment venue which has shown sporting events such as basketball and hockey games.

The entire film, Bridges brought the audience to explore the idea of human connections with the ocean and the involvement of Mother nature in human life, through the Cosm revolutionary LED canvas.

“Bo’s film really stood out to me” Says Senior Aislin Fairchild “It was unlike anything I’ve seen before. The creativity and high-quality production made it super engaging from start to finish.”
