Pardon Our Take

Welcome back, Mustangs, to Pardon Our Take. Spring sports are officially in season, which means hope is high, records are 0-0, and delusion is at an all-time peak.
Let’s start off with softball. Will they win games this year? Unclear. But are they already winning in spirit with their banana-yellow knee socks and aggressively green-and-yellow striped uniforms? Absolutely. If intimidation was based purely on color coordination, they’d be undefeated.
Now to boys volleyball. The reigning CIF champions entered the season with the kind of confidence that only comes from being undefeated for nearly two years and not losing their own tournament in… forever. And then they lost. In their first tournament. To be fair, they did lose basically their entire Division 1 starting lineup, so maybe this is what people call a “rebuilding year.” Loyola probably has that game circled and labeled “easy one.”
Quick shoutout to our winter champs, girls rugby, the only team that actually went undefeated. No excuses, just wins. While everyone else was posting “hype” basketball graphics, rugby was out there taking care of business. They may not be a CIF sport, but banners don’t ask for MaxPreps proof.
On a side note, boys golf practices at Topgolf, which basically means we can all consider ourselves on the roster. I personally just have to whiff the ball six or seven times before making contact, but that’s beside the point. If swinging and hoping counts, we’re all on varsity.
And finally, girls lacrosse. More active on the @costa.girls.lax Tiktok than on the actual field, but marketing matters. To be fair, they basically went undefeated last season… until the very last game.
Spring is in the air. Records will change. Egos will adjust. Uniforms will remain bold. And we’ll be here to talk about it.
