Pardon Our Take

Madison Young & Wyatt Davis

Welcome back Mustangs, and welcome back to Pardon Our Take, the section that tells all and hides none about Costa sports. We are thrilled to bring back the best section in all 16 pages of the paper. Sorry I mean 12 (budget cuts).
To start with the obvious, girls volleyball. Yeah the start of the season hasn’t exactly been like the years before, with a national ranking of #12. But let’s be real, what would Costa be without our beloved volleyball teams that makes our school so renowned. Trust the process, even with losses from Redondo, Marymount, and most recently Mater Dei, they will find a way to take bay league someway.
Now, football. Yes, you read that right. Football is actually winning games. We took down Redondo, which honestly deserves a parade through Manhattan Beach itself. For a program that lost their first five preseason games last year and then somehow made it to CIF, they have been giving us hope this year. If the team keeps this up, we might actually have a reason to show up to more than just the Homecoming game.
On the flip side, girls soccer hasn’t even started their season yet and the drama has been real. Yes, a lot of girls got cut, but the real story? Several of our Division 1 commits quit the program right after committing. Imagine finally hitting your dream and then deciding you’ve had enough of high school soccer. Brutal for the program, but hey, at least they’re winning off the field.
Boys water polo is off to a strong start, but you wouldn’t know it because no one shows up to their games just like any other sport besides football. Same goes for girls tennis, they’re quietly winning matches while most of Costa couldn’t even name a single player on the team. That being said, here are the top 5 things that should be considered a varsity sport:

1. Finding parking in the student lot or just anywhere on campus after 8:10 a.m.
2. Carrying your backpack from the math and science building to the Spanish hallways.
3. Checking into office hours with your VPN not connecting and wifi not working as usual.
4. Trying to buy a snack from the vending machine and it steals your money.
5.Waking up every morning as a senior (senioritis already kicking in).

That’s your Costa sports rundown for this month. Tune in to the next issue for more hot takes, and as always, please Pardon Our Take.
