Mira Costa girls water polo beat Redondo Union with a final score of 6-5 on Jan. 22 in a Bay League match, breaking a long losing streak against their rivals and securing a spot in the playoffs.
The game had a close score throughout, but Costa picked up momentum in the second half. Scores came from players who stepped into different roles through the game.
“The biggest turning point was when we had strong defense,” said senior captain Catalina Marian. “In the second half, we were focused on helping each other out.”
Through strong communication, Costa created offensive opportunities. This win marked Costa’s first victory over Redondo in two years, and sealed their spot in CIF.
“Winning that game after our past challenges really accelerated our momentum,” said senior captain Caroline Le. “Having that win shows that everything we’ve been working for was worth it.”
