Atmosphere’s most recent release tops the charts

It looks like it is possible for Atmosphere to produce another amazing album. “To All My Friends, Blood Makes the Blade Holy” was released early September and is a chart-topper on iTunes.

Rapper Slug (born as Sean Daly) and DJ Ant (born as Anthony Davis) created a new type of flow that encompasses all of Atmosphere’s styles found in their past albums.

DJ Ant mixes and produces every album, with the exception of one previous album, Lucy Ford. Going for a darker feel on instrumentals and lyrics for most songs, Slug and Ant paid careful attention to track selection.

Songs like “The Major Leagues”, “The Loser Wins”, and “Hope” give off a depressing outlook on Slug explaining his point of view on heartbreak and drug use. However, all Atmosphere fans respect Slug’s brutal honesty in  his songs and recognize that the mix of sad and happy throughout the album really shows who he is.

The few upbeat songs on the album are “The Best Day”, “To All My Friends”, and “The Number None”. They are somewhat comical as Slug throws in his own personal jokes that explain his experiences in a brighter way.

Released September 7, “To All My Friends, Blood Makes the Blade Holy” reached #2 on iTunes’ Top 10 Album Downloads for the week of September 11.  This being Atmosphere’s ninth album, it has a style of their past music with Slug’s catchy lyrics and Ant’s unique styled beats. The album is associated with Murs, Living Legends, Aesop Rock, and other underground hip-hop artists usually found at an Atmosphere venue.

Atmosphere usually describes emotions of hate through a fictitious character by the name of Lucy Ford. Shockingly enough, we don’t see her that often in the album. Throughout this album, Atmosphere focuses on young love, drug deals, vehicular homicide, and other aspects of life we don’t always see.

Atmosphere is now touring around the United States performing in smaller venues. They plan on performing with special guests Blueprint, Grieves & Budo, and DJ Rare Groove in the near future.
