The Mira Costa Marching Band and Color Guard placed first and second in their division on Oct. 22 at the Golden State Field Tournament in Hacienda Heights.

According to Flute Soloist Elisse Friedman, the marching band performed a majority of its entire show at the tournament while at its last tournament, the group was only able to perform about two thirds of it. In the performance, “Trapped in Time” they completed the opener, ballade, and the first half of the closure.

“As a group, we marched and played together so well,” Friedman said. “I am so proud of how far everyone has come.”

According to Band President Sean Syed, their show and music quality improved since the Royal Tournament that took place on Oct 8. Unfortunately, there were some technical difficulties since the microphones were not working so it made it difficult to hear the players and it prevented them from showcasing all of their sound effects.

“It was great to debut the new material after we have been working on it for so long,” Syed said.
