Band and orchestra soloists competed in the annual Rotary Solo Competition Finals on Friday in the auditorium.

The winners for the 9th and 10th grade band and orchestra division are violinist Eric Mei and flute player Bella Arnao. The winners for the 11th and 12 grade division are celloist Wendy Roble and flute player Emily Angstreich. The soloists were judged based on their tone, technique and musicality.

“This year I was lucky the judge seemed to favor the way I was playing,” Angstreich said. “I put a lot of time and thought into my interpretation of the piece and I spent a lot of time listening to it to get a feel for it.”

The soloists who placed first, second and third from each division will attend the Rotary breakfast on March 13 and the first place winners will perform.

“The competition felt good and it pushed me to do my best,” Arnao said. “When I had difficulties I still came through and continued preparing.”
