Mira Costa boys volleyball faced Corona Del Mar High School on tuesday 3/12 for their third league As the third set began, Costa was finally able to build up some momentum. They began to play their game, working together as a unit. The Mustangs won the third set 25-18.

“We had trouble because our connection between our attackers and setters was poor,” junior Jack Hopkins said. “When we could connect, we had more success.”

Corona Del Mar quickly reacted to Costa’s win. The Mustangs continued to make sloppy mistakes, and the Seakings capitalized on these mistakes. Costa lost the final set 25-20.

“I think it was probably the worst game we played this season,” Bond said. “We missed 17 serves in the four sets we played, so we almost gave them a whole set.”

The Mustangs are now 2-1 in league. They play Palos Verdes High School on thurday 3/14 at home, and are hoping to make up for their tough lose versus Corona Del Mar.

“The team is excited to get better and improve on some of the things that we have struggled with,” Coordt said. “We are also looking forward in playing some of these important upcoming matches.”game. The Mustangs had an upsetting 4-1 lose to their rival school.

In our game versus Corona Del Mar I don’t think we played our best match,” sophomore Ben Coordt said. “Even though we didn’t play great, we did do things well and are still looking to improve.”

The Mustangs did not come out strong, missing serves and passing poorly. The Seakings, with home court advantage, came out on top, winning the first set 25-18.

“We passed bad the whole game and were always out of system which made it hard for our hitters to get quality swings,” senior Will Bond said.

Costa made little improvement going into the second set, still making the same mistakes they made before. Corona Del Mar strengthened their lead, winning the second set 25-21.

“We were not present mentally and we made too many errors,” Bond said. “We are close to being to where we need to be but we have to focus in the practices before our games which we did not do on Monday.”
