Dua Lipa’s newest album “Future Nostalgia” provides a modern spin on the timeless disco sound that immediately makes listeners want to get up on their feet and hit the dance floor.
With its upbeat tracks and Lipa’s rich vocals, the album is filled with a dynamic collection of songs. Its combination of funk and pop allows listeners to escape to a carefree world where the problems plaguing today’s society are no longer relevant.
Lipa is a British singer and songwriter who rose to fame with her self-titled debut album “Dua Lipa” and is most well-known for her songs “New Rules” and “IDGAF.” In 2017, she collaborated with Calvin Harris on the song “One Kiss,” and Martin Garrix on the song “Scared To Be Lonely,” which both gained her credibility in the music industry.
“Future Nostalgia” is a production of Warner Records, which Lipa signed to in 2015. The album consists of eleven disco-pop songs and kicked off with the release of “Don’t Start Now,” a single from the album that Lipa released in Nov. Lipa originally scheduled the release of the album for Apr. 3, but moved up the release date to Mar. 27 after it was prematurely leaked to the public.
“Future Nostalgia” is filled with retro beats inspired by the disco era. Lipa uses her natural talent and unique voice to deliver powerful songs that each contain their own originality. Each song in “Future Nostalgia” takes listeners on a joyride through past eras of music with a modern twist.
One of the songs featured in the album is her title track “Future Nostalgia.” Much like the title suggests, it has a futuristic feel to it with hints of popular disco beats from past decades that everyone knows and loves. Through this song, Lipa spreads a message of the importance of women having confidence and knowing that they can be just as powerful as men. Not only is “Future Nostalgia” an upbeat and perfectly crafted song, but its optimistic messages are encouraging to listeners.
“Break My Heart” is another song from the album that talks about heartbreak and the vulnerability that Lipa feels in her relationships. Lipa sings about this in an untraditional way, with an upbeat tempo and fast pace singing, which is unlike most love songs. The risks Lipa took when formulating this album provide a refreshing listen to those going through hard times.
Another notable song from the album is “Physical.” If there is any song in the album that makes listeners want to get up and dance, it’s this one. With it’s playful sound and catchy lyrics, “Physical” is the perfect song to put on when in need of a little inspiration and energy.
