Mira Costa’s Associated Student Body will be enforcing club rules outlined by the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team, during the 2014-2015 school year in order to streamline club spending.

Previously, ASB only required new clubs to fill out paperwork necessary to be a club. This year, all clubs are required to submit a Club Renewal Form, the club’s by-laws, Roster and a Budget and Signature Card.

“We are being more succinct with what we want from everyone,” ASB advisor Lisa Claypoole said. “We want every club to be thinking fiscally about their club budgets.”

ASB is now enforcing these rules after an audit found problems in the 2013-2014 club budget. The new paperwork clubs are now required to fill out includes information on each club’s estimated revenues, expenses and carryover funds, all required by the FCMAT.

“We’re really trying to make kids aware of their budget, as this will help when it comes time to be audited,” Claypoole said. “We really got dinged last time.”

Many Costa club presidents this year have responded to these regulations negatively, according to Claypoole.

“I think the rules will help run things a little bit easier, but it makes things a lot more stressful for club leaders,” Fashion Club president Leah McDonald said.
