Senior Jimmy Milea, a member of the wrestling team at Mira Costa, placed fifth at Las Vegas Open Wrestling Tournament that took place May 4 through May 8.

Milea wrestles in the heavyweight division which ranges from 220 pounds to 280 pounds. He won his first two matches against the eventual 3rd and 4th place finishers, one of whom was the Washington State Champion. Milea then lost his last two matches, in part due to suffering from bronchitis.

“I did okay, being sick affected me dramatically,” Milea said. “Having bronchitis made me change my game plan and I am angry that had happened.”

Although Milea’s official high school career is over, he plans on improving his skills in various tournaments throughout the summer, before he moves on to Oregon state to wrestle. At Oregon, he is expecting to white-shirt his freshman year because there are better, more skilled heavyweights in the wrestling team at OSU.

“Next year at Oregon State will mostly be a learning experience for me,” Milea said. “I have to stay in shape so that I will be fully conditioned when I go to Oregon this summer.”
