Mira Costa’s Associated Student Body hosted its annual Homecoming Week, which led up to last Saturday’s Homecoming football game at Waller Stadium followed by the dance in Fisher Gym.
ASB planned to announce the King and Queen at the Homecoming Football Game on Oct. 12, but due to rain and lightning, the game was rescheduled to the morning of Oct. 13. ASB named seniors Alexandra Bedingfield and Yusuf Abdul-Cader Homecoming King and Queen at the game.
“When Homecoming got cancelled we all felt super defeated and let down,” Homecoming Court member Bianca Bosnoyan said. “We worked so hard all week long with the excitement of Friday’s game to look forward to, but after it was rained out all hope and excitement were gone.”
Upperclassmen voted on Sept. 26 for students who were nominated by various campus clubs and organizations to be on the 2018 Homecoming Court. After votes were tallied, the princesses included Chase Evers, Sydney Garmoe, Bianca Bosnoyan, Alexandra Bedingfield, Becky Angiolini and Soleil Crow. The princes included Liam Barberi, Kai Bathurst, Malcom Kluth, Owen Price-Hughes, Parker Lynch and Yusuf Abdul-Cader.
“Being on the court was a very fun and cool experience because I got to spend time with people that I otherwise wouldn’t have,” Homecoming King and senior Yusuf Abdul-Cader said.
This year’s Homecoming dance was the last to be held in Fisher Gym, since the gym will be renovated in December. ASB chose Dreamland as the theme of the dance and students wore pajamas, where Bedingfield and Abdul-Cader participated in a commemorative dance.
“Winning Homecoming Queen has been an honor, knowing that my actions, hard work and determination these past few years here at Costa have not been unnoticed,” Bedingfield said. “It is very rewarding and special that people chose me as their vote.”
Each couple participated in games and dressed up in costumes for Homecoming Week including holidays, iconic pairs, Disney duos, compound words and cheerleader and football players. They participated in various games at lunch and performed a dance at the pep rally on Oct. 12.
“I liked playing the games with my partner the most,” senior Malcom Kluth said. “My favorite game was on Thursday when we tried to pop the balloons attached to the opponents’ leg and we got to push each other.”
