Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles in Long Beach provides an ideal dinner outing for any fried chicken lover due to its lively atmosphere and unique combination of tastes.

Although the most famous Roscoe’s is at the original location on the Sunset strip, this particular location also attracts huge crowds of customers on a nightly basis with its famous chicken and waffles combo.

Customers typically experience a wait of 30 to 60 minutes for a table, joining enthusiastic groups of diners outside. Inside, the walls are decorated with portraits and murals of famous jazz musicians. The lively atmosphere creates a casual, homey feeling.

The menu does not have much variety, so anybody going to Roscoe’s should expect to order fried chicken à la carte or in a sandwich, salad, omelet or other dish.

The most popular dish consists of a quarter of a chicken and two giant waffles.

The chicken is golden and perfectly crispy, while the sweetness of the waffles in combination with salted butter produces nothing short of euphoria. To top it off, the signature bottle of Red Rooster hot sauce is always at hand to dash on some spice. Side orders include biscuits, macaroni and cheese and French fries, completing an array of soul food options. These also deliver the simple, greasy perfection upon which Roscoe’s has built its reputation.

On crowded nights, meal preparation can take up to an hour. The payoff comes with the restaurant’s large portions, which are sure to fill up even the hungriest of patrons.

The quarter chicken and two waffles meal (the “number one,” for those in the know) costs about $10, a reasonable price for such a huge amount of food. Although the food tends to be on the unhealthy side, a social outing to Roscoe’s every once in a while is well worth the excess calories.

Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles on 730 East Broadway in Long Beach is open 8:30-12 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday and 8:30-4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Roscoe’s is perfect for an outing with family or friends. Although artery-clogging, the combination of fried chicken and waffles is both delicious and filling. Roscoe’s offers customers the experience of a welcoming atmosphere and a hearty meal.
