On Mar. 29 Costa students went on trips to Japan and Spain. During their week-long break, the students got a good feel for the diverse cultures and places they visited.

With chaperones Mrs.Shapiro (Spain) and Mrs.Getsy (Japan) the students were guided through the full experience responsibly. The trips hosted through Costa promoted independence while also teaching boundaries. Students were given time to hangout and explore at their own discretion while also having time together as a group.

A typical day for students on the Spain trip consisted of guided tours to historical monuments, followed by free time to explore the country. Following free time students and chaperones collected for a dinner together.

“I loved how much we were able to discover on our own,” said junior Hayden Levin, “ What really surprised me was how welcoming the locals were. I have heard bad things about locals not liking tourists, but they were so kind and helpful.”

The things the students did in Spain varied widely ensuring there was something fun for all. The students as a group toured big cathedrals, attended a soccer game, toured a college in Madrid, and went on a tour of a sword factory.

“The sword factory tour was amazing. They took us through the building and showed us how the swords were made, as well as sharing the history of them” said Lauren Crotty, “By the end, everyone I traveled with felt like family and I gained memories that will last a lifetime.”

Those who chose to fly abroad to Japan also had quite the experience. About 35 students flew into Tokyo for their 5 day stay. They too visited multiple cities and participated in many tours with locals.

“This trip was a once in a lifetime experience for me,” said Sophomore Maddie Norberg. “Most of my family had already visited and didn’t want to go again. So the fact that I had the opportunity to go with my classmates and teachers was pretty cool. I had always wanted to visit Japan for the culture and food and it far exceeded my expectations.”

On the first day they got there students were given a tour of Toykyo by a local, and on day two students went out on their own. On the remainder of the trip they went on many tours including the visit of the Great Buddha of Kamakura and mount Fuji. They also went on a boat tour along with eating amazing food. Nonetheless, students had an amazing time doing what they pleased.

“I did everything I wanted to do in Japan and more. I loved going thrifting and shopping with my friends,” said Junior Ayusha Rajesh.

With both trips having endless excitement and little to no problems another spring break ends positively. Costa hosts spring break trips every year, being very successful with kids who want to travel as part of the school group.
