Jack Major Ocean league player of the year

2. Majors hits his ball out of the sand pocket after a rough shot. Major was named the ocean league player of the year for boys golf this year which honors the player who is most dedicated, improved, and is an overall high achiever for the sport.

After being one of the top players on Mira Costa’s golf team, junior Jack major recieve the Ocean League player of the year award, and honor only one player a year is given.

The award is given to the player who has improved the most, puts the most effort into the sport, and who consistently performs solidly on the course. Major said that is was a real honor to receive this award and he believes that he has progressed a lot as a golfer this year.

“I was very shocked when I received this award, but it goes to show all of the improvement I have made this year,” Major said. “I put in a lot of effort into this sport so it is nice to see my effort is recognised.”

Major has been on the varsity golf team for 2 years now and he is one of the team top players. He along with other members on the team practice 3 days a week for 2 hours. Major also goes to the driving range on his free time to improve his swing.

“Being apart of the varsity golf team is a lot of work and it takes a lot of dedication to be a top player,” Major said. “I also put in hours outside of practice which really make a big difference during tournaments.”

According to Majors teammates and coaches he is a impactful component to the team. Major consistently scores near par and he gets some of the lowest scores for the varsity team.

“Major did a great job playing as part of the team,” fellow teammate senior Maxwell Huggins said. “He would also always cover for another person who didn’t play well.”

Next year will be Majors third year on the varsity golf team. He is not sure if he would like to play golf in college but he is definitely open to the idea if he had the opportunity. Major says that he will continue to play golf for fun regardless whether or not he plays in college.

“There are a lot of opportunities to play golf in college and it would be great if I had the chance to play in college,” Major said. “Although it is very competitive and it is very hard to commit to a college for golf,”
