Costa administration implements new printing system campus wide

After complaints in December, the Mira Costa administration implemented a new printing system in which students email their work for pickup to make up for the lack of printers in the library.

Students now can print by sending a file to mchsstudentsupport@mbusd.org and can pick up their work between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. in the copy room or the student store during lunch for a cost of 10 cents per page.

“I felt bad that the printers were removed for students who can’t print at home, and I’m happy that a solution has finally been reached,” Mira Costa librarian Jane Lofton said.

School administrators have been seeking a solution that would allow printer access to students but not overload staff.

“We understand the frustration,” Vice Principal Jaime Mancilla said. “We have a good reason for the removal. We are coming up with a university-like plan.”

The library printer conflict has been going on since the beginning of the school year. According to students, printers are necessities on campus, especially for those who do not have printers at home. Some faculty members claim the printers were jamming and were often abused.

“I spent a lot of time dealing with jams and malfunctions,” Lofton said. “Once I would get one unjammed, papers would go flying. It was time-consuming.”

Some students are still dissatisfied with the solution.

“I’m going to try to create a group of volunteers to help the librarians deal with the printers,” junior Macielle Osterling said. “There are a lot of technologically minded students who wouldn’t mind helping out in order to help the Costa community. I’m not trying to create a problem; I’m just trying to fix it.”
