Mira Costa math teacher Linda Gesualdi was selected as Mira Costa’s Teacher of the Year on April 17 and is moving on to compete for the district award.

Each of the seven schools in the district picks one teacher as teacher of the year. Teachers are nominated by any of their colleagues from their schools, and department chairs vote on who they want to win for their school.

“I was shocked to be nominated,” Gesualdi said. “I wouldn’t expect to get emotional about this, but it felt good.”

Gesualdi has been teaching at Mira Costa for 26 years. She currently teaches both pre-calculus and AP calculus AB.

“We were happy for her because she is so dedicated and patient as a teacher,” junior Abha Nath said.

Gesualdi was selected from a group of four nominees. On April 17, she was greeted during 4th period by Principal Ben Dale and all of the vice principals.

“Ms. Gesualdi is awesome,” Dale said. “She was doing something so innovative and unique that she distinguished herself.”

On May 16, MBUSD will announce the 2011-12 district Teacher of the Year. He or she will then move on to the county Teacher of the Year competition.

“I’d like to thank all of my colleagues for supporting me,” Gesualdi said. “I’m truly humbled. I don’t think that I can imagine a better job.”
