Do you run your own business? The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce will be offering a $500 scholarship to students at Costa who have started and operated their own business.

The Chamber’s Education Committee is headed by Rob Stone, owner of Study Hut. Students have to fill in an application to apply for the scholarship. Only one student will be selected for the scholarship.

“We want to recognize those students at an early age,” Stone said. “So far we do not have any applications, but we hope to get at least five.”

The scholarship recipient must be a Costa student and have started and are currently operating his or her own business. This business has to have been running for at least six months. To qualify as an entrepreneur, the students must manage their business and not have a boss.

“There are a few different places that students can turn in their applications,” Stone said. “They are due May 10 in either the La Vista room, Study Hut or emailed to me.”

Due to the success of this program at other schools, Stone decided to bring this scholarship to Costa. The Education Committee would like to continue to do the scholarship program every year.

“This program sounds like a great opportunity to entrepreneurs,” sophomore Ellen Ford said. “If I had my own business, I would be interested in signing up for the scholarship opportunity.”
