Salads are fun, easy and healthy meals that are. Leafy Greens, a restaurant that plans to open this summer, is providing healthy alternatives for local residents.

Leafy Greens, a new restaurant in downtown Manhattan Beach, will open soon. Replacing the frozen yogurt and sweet shop FroZen, this healthier restaurant plans to bring organic food choices to local beach-goers. Their comprehensive menu offers vegan, vegetarian, and various nutritious options. Leafy Greens grab-and-go salad bar provides reasonably priced replacement meals.

“It’s great that a healthy choice is available for teenagers to eat downtown when there are a lot of junk food places nearby,” senior Ben Martin said.

Their menu contains soups and salads. The salad is weighed, and based on this weight, it is priced. Some of their unique toppings include sunflower seeds, squash and tofu. The concept of this restaurant is an efficient self-service salad and soup bar with inside dining options as well.

“I’m really looking forward to being able to have access to a salad bar because its always so hard finding yummy vegetarian options,” freshman Kate Mallon said.

Although Leafy Greens is currently under construction, it plans to open this summer. Costa students hope to get a job at Leafy Greens this summer.

“I really hope I can get a summer job working at Leafy Greens because I really agree with their health-conscious theme,” said junior Lily Hubbard.

Many are excited about the grand opening this summer, but due to the location’s unstable past, not all are confident about the future of this restaurant. Two previous eateries including FroZen and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory closed shortly after they first opened.

“I really want this restaurant to do well, but I’m unsure because two places have gone out of business there already,” freshman Bella Cuevas said.

Hopefully Leafy Greens’ catchy slogan of “Make it, Weight it, and take it to-go” will make a lasting mark on the patrons of Manhattan Beach.

“I can already imagine taking my salad to-go and heading to the beach,” Senior Nina Granow said. “It’s about time people starting eating healthy in summer.”
