Frosted Cupcakery, a new cupcake bakery on Hermosa Avenue in Hermosa Beach, has gotten Hermosa Beach and surrounding residents excited about traditional and handcrafted cupcakes.

Mother and daughter Nancy and Stacia Hanley have successfully run two cupcake bakeries in Long Beach and Hollywood. They have now created their third and newest location in Hermosa Beach, called the Frosted Cupcakery, which opened on May 11.

“Our original location opened in 2005 in Long Beach,” manager Tyler Long said. “With the great success, it led us to our second location in Hollywood, and our newest location in Hermosa.”

Frosted Cupcakery is located in the Bijou building, a Hermosa Beach historical landmark. The city council enforced the law of having a “certificate of appropriateness” enforced so that the impact of construction would not greatly effect the landmark.

“It is really great that we’re located right by the beach,” Long said. “The ambiance of Frosted Cupcakery is definitely very modern and classic due to its location.”

Frosted Cupcakery offers other various desserts, such as “hi-top” cupcakes, ice cream cupcakes, minis and jumbos. The cupcake flavors include chocolate, key lime and royal white nutella.

“All of our cupcakes are freshly baked every day,” Long said. “We use tons of fresh quality ingredients, and we also sell gluten-free cupcakes.”

Frosted Cupcakery’s cupcakes and other treats are popular in the South Bay and amongst Mira Costa students. Frosted provides students with a convenient dessert eatery. Frosted has hired Costa students, including senior Ashleigh Derosa.

“I’m very open to trying new restaurants and dessert places, so I was very excited when Frosted Cupcakery opened,” freshman Maddie Nerad said.

Frosted Cupcakery is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The average cost for a single cupcake is $3.

“Although there are other cupcake shops in the South Bay area, we have loyal customers who keep us in business,” Long said. “We hope to become a part of the great community in Hermosa Beach and that people will enjoy our cupcakes.”
