The Manhattan Beach School Board decided to name the turf field of Mira Costa’s football stadium “Bill Cooper Field” at an Aug. 25 meeting. The name of the actual stadium has not been changed.
“The stadium is still Waller Stadium. You’re going to hear ‘Waller Stadium and Bill Cooper Field’ now,” said Principal Ben Dale at a La Vista press conference.
Bill Cooper is a former teacher and school board member from the Manhattan Beach Unified School District.
The “Facility/Property Naming Committee” that made the decision consists of board members, teachers and one student.
