The girls basketball fall short in first home game

By: Katie von Behren

The Mira Costa girls basketball team played against Bishop Montgomery on Jan. 3. The mustangs lost 56-37 after a close game against the knights, with the lead shifting back and forth throughout the game.

Sophomore Keilani Ikehara was the top scorer making eleven points for Costa and Senior Rachel Humphrey also contributed with eight points. At the end of the first quarter the mustangs were only down by one with the score 15-14. It was a tight game but in the end Costa couldn’t regain the lead after the third quarter, the score then 47-30.

“We went out in this game with a lot of energy and played really strong,” Humphrey said. “It was a great game and the score constantly went back and forth but when it came down to the end, Bishop was just a better team.”

The girls will play at home on Jan. 5 at 7:30 against North Torrance High School.
