As one sees the rustic decor, hears the welcoming chatter of happy staff and customers and smells unique small plates of delicious food, it is evident that he or she is at MB Post.

Out of the 51 restaurants in Manhattan Beach, MB Post has been recently ranked as number one in terms of quality and overall atmosphere and experience by Zagat, a restaurant rating and review website. The restaurant was reviewed on Zagat by 73 people, and according to polls conducted by Zagat, 95% liked it.

MB Post opened in downtown Manhattan Beach on April 18 last year. The owner, Mike Simms, decided to partner with his good friend Chef David LeFevre to create a restaurant geared for the local residents who have always supported them both and to help bring LeFevre’s dream of being a head chef to fruition.

“MB Post was able to get the highest Zagat rating in Manhattan Beach because of the tireless effort to attaining perfection that is put in by Chef David and his team,” Simms said.

Zagat is based on a 30-point scale by which users review different restaurants. Not only does it judge the quality of a restaurant’s food, but also its decor, service and cost. Users can also comment with their reviews of the food on the restaurant’s Zagat page. According to the frequenters of the restaurant, MB Post deserves the praise Zagat and the community is giving it.

“I am not surprised that MB Post is ranked as number one because it is a high-class restaurant with great food,” senior Corie Bain said. “I would definitely recommend it to other people.”

According to eatmbpost.com, MB Post is a restaurant designed for meeting new people and spending time with family and friends. The restaurant strives to create a welcoming environment along with a “playful artisan” menu. These different aspects of the restaurant are both appreciated and also criticized by those who dine there.

“The atmosphere and style [of MB Post] is very cool and relaxed,” sophomore Ryan Fiene said. “The only bad aspect of the restaurant, however, is that some of the tables are shared with others, so you don’t feel like you have much privacy.”

However, according to MB Post customers, not only is the overall atmosphere of the restaurant welcoming, but the staff is great as well. After all, according to Simms, the best part of MB Post are the people involved with it.

“The quick, yet personalized service at MB Post was absolutely amazing,” freshman Tatum Schlossberg said. “Everyone working there was welcoming, upbeat, and extremely helpful.”

Another reason why many South Bay residents have taken such a liking to MB Post is its location, as it is close to the downtown Manhattan Beach scene. According to customers, the convenient location of MB Post makes it easier to get to as it is near several of the popular destinations of the town.
“The location of MB Post is great because it is near the beach, right in downtown,” junior Makena McCarroll said. “However, the only downside to the location is that it makes parking hard to find.”

However, in the end, it always does come down to the quality of the food at a restaurant, and MB Post has been impressing many of it customers by the refined palette of its unique menu.

“My favorite item at MB Post was the brussel sprouts,” Fiene said. “Also, the size of all the dishes wasn’t too big so you didn’t feel stuffed after.”

To sum it all up, MB Post customers and employees alike are evidently extremely impressed with the outcome of the restaurant. This is shown through the raving reviews MB Post has received from Zagat users and Costa students and the level of success the people involved with MB Post feels it has achieved.

“Overall, MB Post is a high class restaurant with great food,” Bain said. “And I would definitely recommend it to other people.”
