The Mira Costa boys varsity golf team defeated Peninsula High School in the first game of the season on Tuesday. The Mustangs won, 192 to 197 strokes.

Sophomore C.J. Coleman had the lowest number of strokes on the team, ending the match two strokes under par. Coleman had an eagle on the fourth hole, followed by two birdies to get his momentum started.

“Overall, our team did not play to our full potential, but we avoided the right mistakes and were able to win,” Coleman said.

The Mustangs’ next match was on Thursday against Peninsula but results were unavailable due to time of publication.

“We need to work on our short game,” Coleman said. “Our scores were consistent throughout the game, but we need to practice putting and chipping.”
