Mira Costa’s Advanced Women’s Chorale and Vocal Ensemble will be performing “The Cathedral Concert” on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Costa auditorium lobby.

This will be Costa’s first “Cathedral Concert,” and if it is successful, the choirs plan to hold this concert annually. The goal of this concert is to emulate an authentic cathedral atmosphere.

“Since this concert is in the lobby, it has a stunning acoustic,” choir director Michael Hayden said. “We will be showcasing all sacred music to give that cathedral experience.”

Because the concert takes place in the lobby, only 140 people will be able to attend.

“We hope to give our audiences an intimate experience with these two ensembles,” Hayden said.

Candlelights will be scattered throughout the lobby to match the cathedral theme.

“Since we have never performed in this setting, it will be a unique experience,” Advanced Women’s Chorale member sophomore Mckay Gillette said. “We have been working on our tone and pitch, so we really hope the audience enjoys every piece.”

Advanced Women’s Chorale will sing “Salve Regina Chant,” a Marian Hym, and “Alleluia,” a Catholic chant. Vocal Ensemble will perform “Ave Verum Corpus,” a short Eucharistic Hym and “Psalm 22.”

“I am personally working on my stage presence,” Vocal Ensemble member sophomore Derek Zeoli said. “I am very interested to see the audience’s reaction.”

The choir will sell tickets for $25 prior to the concert due to limited seating.

“I am looking forward to the beautiful music and the ambiance we will be creating through the performance of this music and the transformation of the lobby,” Hayden said.
