MBUSD rescinds additional Spanish position

At the May 5 Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting, the board rescinded the cut of an additional secondary Spanish position in addition to the 19.6 positions rescinded at the last meeting.

The previously rescinded 19.6 positions were funded by reductions in the budget of supplies and services within the district. The Spanish position is also going to be funded by these reductions, but was delayed due to the unknown number of students enrolling in the Spanish. Enrollment into the program exceeded what the board had expected, allowing them to add additional sections to the Spanish program.

“The student demand in the Spanish program was sufficient enough to bring back more sections of teachers,” Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services Dr. Rick Bagley said. “When necessary, the board adjusts to the student need.”
