Girls volleyball falls to the Sailors

Mira Costa High School faced off against Marymount High School on Sept. 10 at home.

In the first game, Costa got off to a strong start, taking a 10-5 lead over the Sailors. Marymount quickly came back to make it 12-1. At 19-19 the game was back and forth but, Marymount took game 1 at a score of 30-28.

Game 2 was close also with the score of at the beginning 4-4, but Costa went on a run to take the lead at 11-4. Costa won the second game 25-16.

Game 3 started with Marymount taking a 10-2 lead which, forced a timeout by Costa. After the timeout, Costa cut the lead down to 1 and made it 10-9. Costa and Marymount traded point-for-point until Marymount pulled away and won the third game 25-16.

Sloppy play in game four helped Marymount take the lead of 15-12.Costa could not seem to find momentum and ended up losing the fourth game 25-20 and ended the match.

“I think we played well the first two sets but our serve receive fell apart in the second two sets,” sophomore starter Emma Smith said.

Costa volleyball plays again at home on Sept. 12 against Notre Dame Academy at 5:15.
