The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime at the 7 p.m. football game tonight in Waller Stadium.

The halftime show will features a video, made by Mustang Morning News, with all the members of the Homecoming court. At the end of the film, the king and queen will be revealed.

“I always look forward to going to the Homecoming game to see the video with all the members of court and to see the King and Queen being crowned,” junior Lauren Williams said.

Community support helped make the show possible.

“I think it’s great how the Fire Department pitches in to drive the cheerleaders and that people donate their cars for the Homecoming Court to ride around in. Homecoming is really a community event,” Commissioner of Special Events and senior Laurent Wellbaum said.

Homecoming festivities end with the dance Saturday, held in Fisher Gym from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. The theme will be ‘What Happens at Homecoming…’
Commissioner of Entertainment Sophie Everhard and her Auxiliary Ally Jordan were responsible for planning the dance. Their main responsibilities were coordinating music, food, and decorations.

“We put a lot of time and effort into the decorations. There will be a cool poker chip wall and big Las Vegas sign that really embodies the spirit of the theme,” Everhard said.

The dance will include cards tables where students can play poker and blackjack with Mira Costa teachers serving as dealers. There will also be snacks at the dance as well as a “bar” with various beverages.

ASB said they expect around 400 people to attend the dance. Last year, they said 600 students attended.

“Our goal is always to get as many people as possible to attend. We put up posters and try to advertise as much as possible, with Spirit Week leading up to the dance and game,” Jordan said.

Students say they hope that the event will be exciting and entertaining.

“I am really looking forward to the dance and I think it will be a fun night,” senior Lucy Miles said.
