The Wanted was scheduled to visit Mira Costa on Oct. 18 but cancelled the morning of their performance due to some safety concerns.

The British band was planning to perform during lunch on the steps near the administration building but canceled due to its managements concerns regarding crowd security and safety. According to The Wanted’s management, the band canceled the event to mitigate the risk and liability for the school.

“Uncontrollable crowd issues have been an increasing issue during The Wanted’s tour,” the band’s publicist, Susan Weber, said. “We did not want to put Costa in that type of position,”

The band scheduled the performance as a part of its high school promotional tour launched to promote its newest album, “Word of Mouth.”

“The Wanted didn’t give Costa much of a choice,” Costa Vice Principal Deborah Hofreiter said. “They begged us to allow them to come perform at our school. Their management never asked what our student body was like. All they asked us to do was set up the audio and never asked for any security. We were afraid that something like this would happen, so we chose not to advertise this event.”
