The Manhattan Beach Unified School District provided and distributed free flu shots on Oct. 31 to residents of South Bay.

MBUSD was approached by the Los Angeles Public Health center to contribute free vaccinations to all residents of all ages.

“The flu has become a serious issue lately and can be fatal for some people,” MBUSD Nurse Tami Simmons said. “Being vaccinated has proved to prevent the spreads and the serious associations with the flu and I think the L.A. county has done a pretty good job choosing and determining the right combinations.”

This year 203 people got vaccinated, most of which were students and their parents by six public health nurses who administered the vaccines.

“I think it’s such a nice thing MBUSD has been doing to give out free flu shots,” sophomore Marisa Ellis said. “I have gotten vaccinated both last and this year and it has been very helpful to me and a lot of other people.”
