The concert “We Can Survive” was not only a thrilling performance, but was put on for a great cause. All the profit made from the tickets was donated to breast cancer. Seeing idols up on stage talking and singing about something so relatable really gives people hope.

Katy Perry, the main artist performing at the concert, also chose Ellie Goulding, Sara Bareilles, Kacey Musgraves, Tegan and Sara, and Bonnie McKee to perform at the concert with her. Together they sent out an inspirational message at the Hollywood Bowl on Wednesday, October 23rd, that people should always have hope that there is a cure for breast cancer.

“We Can Survive” was not only Katy Perry’s first concert at the Hollywood Bowl, but it was also the first show that she put on to help the cause of breast cancer. She managed to put together the whole concert, with a goal of raising funds for the Young Survival Coalition. Perry succeeded in her efforts to raise awareness, and money.

The concert began with an upbeat, happy performance by Bonnie McKee, Kacey Musgraves, and Sara and Teagan. However these artists were not as well known as the latter, therefore some of the audience members seemed to focus on other things, and not really pay attention to these performers.

As the night went on the performances remained fun, but also contained more meaning by Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, and Sara Bareilles. When each of these artists sang, there was an emotional energy in the air, because each performer had someone in their life affected by breast cancer. Bareilles dedicated a song she sung, to her friend who is now recovering from breast cancer, and Perry and Goulding each spoke about their experiences with it also, which grasped everyone’s attention and turned the concert into a more personal and relatable performance.

The quality of music that was played sounded better live, than it sounds normally. The artists managed to include every sound effect, and detail that are usually in the songs, but with more meaning. When a song plays online or on the radio, it is hard to tell what the artist is feeling or how into the song they are because we cannot see them. Therefore, being able to see these performers on the stage live, really proved to the audience that they meant what they were singing, and truly wanted to perform.

The most heart wrenching song played at the concert was, “Brave” by Sara Bareilles. The song impacted the audience in a way that spoke with hope. She also seemed to be touched, and even had trouble singing some of the words because she became very emotional. This proved to the audience that they are not alone in how they are feeling towards this battle against breast cancer, and even the most famous singers feel this pain.

The show ended with all of the artists singing Katy Perry’s new song, “Roar.” It was a rare and memorable experience to see seven famous artists all singing together on stage. This last act left everyone feeling not only satisfied with the performance, but happy knowing that all these artists came together to support a great cause. It was evident by the end of the concert that the audience members had smiles on their face and hope in their eyes, all thanks to these singers.

Overall, the performance left the audience in awe. Ranging from an exciting beginning to an emotional ending, these talented artists managed to cooperate in a thrilling concert along with an inspiring message.
