Pharrell Williams offers a multitude of new ideas to his newest album “GIRL”.

“GIRL” lacked any sort of deep meaning, this album sounds very retro and future oriented, overall, Williams constructed a decent album.

Williams is an R&B musician who incorporates rap into his music. He is well known for his work with Chad Williams, a musician who plays guitar, saxophone, and piano in a duo called “the Neptunes”. Williams branched off as a solo artist when he released his first single featuring Jay-Z, “Frontin”.

“In My Mind”, Williams first solo album, which was released in 2005. He had Jay-z help him with the production of the album. Williams struggled with becoming an individual artist, and sought help from Jay- Z to become known.

Williams incorporates light music that sounds happy. The upbeat tones used in all aspects of the album get repetitive. He still manages to keep his trademark charm, the smooth tones to his voice, with the change in sound.

This album is so repetitive that it gets annoying. Some of the songs including “Come get it bae,” are completely repetitive making it hard to listen to

Clapping and multiple instruments have been integrated into each individual song on this album. As Williams has an innovative idea with these additions into his songs, it can get to be to much as so many sounds are clashing making it hard to follow.

Williams makes his way from R&B and Rap to the world of pop. He leaves his jazzy sort of sound for a new retro style. Changing to pop allows this album to get more publicity. Making this change makes it bizarre because Williams sounds out of his element in this album.

Williams has impressive features in his songs, which helps the album seem more interesting. He includes Miley Cyrus in “Come Get it Bae”. Justin Timberlake features in “Brand New”, Daft Punk in “Girl”, and Alicia Keys in “Brand New”. These artists popular artists only help the album because they will help him gain publicity.

Through the clashing of sounds and fast pace, it is a difficult task to listen to the songs for very long. Williams album could have been better.

“GIRL” was released March 3rd and is available on Amazon for 11.80$, iTunes for 10.99$, and Target for 13.99.
