Most Mira Costa seniors place most of their focus on going to college. Blake Ohanesian and Zach Weiss are cashing in on their final days as Mustangs.

Ohanesian and Weiss joined forces in late January of this year to put their entrepreneurial skills to the test. They started their own company, Kool Crush Cleaners, a car washing and detailing business that caters to the clients’ needs and go to the clients’ homes to service their cars.

“At first, we just wanted to make some extra money,” Weiss said. “But then we started to realize the poor quality of local car washes, and we sold ourselves on being a quality car wash that isn’t expensive.”

Kool Crush Cleaners offers a less expensive alternative to local car washes and takes pride in their care for clients’ cars.

“I think a lot of people actually appreciate our personalized efforts more than they do the convenience of the other, five minute car washes,” Weiss said.

Kool Crush Cleaners likes to build personal relationships with their clients. With this relationship, the clients have put their trust into Ohanesian and Weiss to care for their cars each time it is worked on.

“We don’t want people to be leaving their cars in our hands and think that their car isn’t getting attention,” Ohanesian said. “We want the client to know that we really are taking care of their car and we aren’t just cleaning it. We are doing it the right way.”

Ohanesian and Weiss spend multiple hours washing each car, perfecting the quality of the wash and making sure that it’s up to the clients’ standards.

“We want to make sure that the customers are getting every penny’s worth,” Ohanesian said. “Even if it’s a basic wash, we make sure the quality is as high as it can be. We aren’t going to trade off quality for spending less time on a client’s car.”

Kool Crush Cleaners have eight loyal customers and another ten, less frequent clients.Their clientele is growing, and their ultimate goal is to cater to high school students.

“Right now, most of our clients are adults,” Weiss said. “They refer their co-workers or their friends to us, which is really cool. While our clientele isn’t huge right now, it is very strong.”

While the creation of Kool Crush Cleaners does not ultimately foreshadow the career paths of Ohanesian and Weiss, they are interested in the business world. Particularly, they are interested in the dynamics of building up a successful business.

“I’ve always been interested in automotive stuff,” Weiss said. “I never thought of myself starting a business washing cars, but now that I have, I can say it’s something that I enjoy and I could definitely pursue on a bigger scale in the future.”

Ohanesian and Weiss plan on maintaining their business even after they leave for college. Depending on the size of their clientele, they may pass off the managing positions to current juniors.

“We just want to make sure that the clients’ cars are still in good hands and are truly being taken care of,” Ohanesian said.
