“Bad Grandpa” fails to utilize potential

After a lack of the stupidities that are the “Jackass” crew, they finally came out with another movie. “Bad Grandpa” was a good idea but the movie came out disappointingly poorly.

With lead actor Johnny Knoxville costumed as an eighty year old man, the film takes its viewers on a road trip across the country with his grandson played by Jackson Nicoll.  During the trip, the two encounter countless crazy scenarios robbing stores, going to strip clubs, and causing chaos.

The film is rated “R” for violence, sexual content, language, and alcohol/ drug abuse. This rating was obviously given due to the extreme amounts of adult content. Although it is not ideal, this content is what made the movie slightly tolerable.

After the previous five movies, this one came up short. The acting in this film was poor and most of the “funny scenes” felt like the actors had to force the joke. In comparison to the other movies that the “Jackass” crew has performed where they act as themselves, this one can not compete due to the actual acting that had to be done.

The “Jackass” crew is a group of men and women who do their own stunts. They are not professional actors and therefore can not put together a movie like this. Had they made this movie more of their real pain causing stunts, it would have been better.

Much like in some of the other “Jackass” movies, this one incorporates real people on hidden cameras who do not know that they are being filmed. The reactions of the people who are not actors were the best part of the movie.

One redeeming factor of this movie is that Knoxville’s costume and makeup were done extremely well. He goes from a 42 year-old man to one that looks like he is 82. There is a behind the scenes video at the end of the movie that shows how Knoxville transformed into an old man.

Knoxville’s supporting actor, Jackson Nicoll who played Billy, the eight year old grandson did a phenomenal job in playing his role. For such a young actor, Nicoll exceeded expectations and was responsible the majority of the comedy incorporated in the movie.

During the movie, the real citizens who are being filmed unknowingly make the movie much more bearable. With the crazy things that Johnny Knoxville puts them through, their reactions are priceless.

After five movies that the “Jackass” crew has put together, they came out with another on Friday, October 25th. “Bad Grandpa” proved the insanity that is the “Jackass” family.

During its opening weekend, “Bad Grandpa” collected $32 million. Although the movie was not good, the stupid things that go on during it are what draw people of all ages to the theatres.

This movie was not successful and is not highly recommended because of the fact that it revolves around blood, sex, and bowel movements.

“Bad Grandpa” is rated R and now playing in theaters nationwide.
