Bruce Springsteen continues to impress with “High Hopes”

A legend to the soft and heartland rock groups, Bruce Springsteen surprisingly releases a brand new album ‘High Hopes’ released November 19, 2013.

Winning twenty Grammy’s, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award, Springsteen has swept quite a few titles throughout his singing career including being entitled to the nickname that started it all: ‘The Boss’. Being apart of the music industry since 1969 Springsteen has successfully released 17 albums from 1973 to present day.

Springsteen’s new album combines rock and roll, jazz fusion and poetic lyrics into a shockingly great come-back track. However, as the album progressed, the songs slowly began to digress as far as the pace.

High Hopes is the first song featured on the album and opens with blasting trumpets and his heavy, southern accent. Adding in extra instruments to most of the songs featured makes the album more exciting and surprising.

While still maintaining the familiar sounds in his music, the evolution of rock and roll applies to each song listed on the album. Back-up singers in the music accompanied his voice extremely well and had a good balance of slower songs and fast-pace, danceable rhythms.

Just Like the Fire Would is a song on the album that clearly shows how his country spirit has remained in his songs throughout the decades. Adding in his country-flare sporadically makes the album more lively and intriguing.

Being 63 years of age and staying in the music business for so long, Springsteen has stayed loyal to his fans by producing wonderful music throughout the ages. This album clearly shows that age doesn’t affect the love for music that Springsteen has.

However toward the end of the album, the songs became more and more slow. The song The Ghost of Tom Joad and Dream Baby Dream dragged away from the excitement of the songs that previously play.

The lyrics “Gotta keep the light burning” in the last song played: Dream Baby Dream seemed as though Springsteen had no more ‘flame to light’ in the album. This song felt like a let-down to the high hopes this album carried in the first couple of songs.

Overall, Springsteen’s new album combines the music featured in his early career with the cultural music of today’s society. Springsteen develops a new meaning behind the idea of country and adds in familiar rock and roll sounds.

‘High Hopes’ is available for download on iTunes for 11.99.
