Over the summer, the Mira Costa administration hired two new vice principals, Marianne Ramos and Jon Shaw, to replace former Costa VP Jaime Mancilla, who took the principal position this year at El Segundo High School.

Additionally, Manhattan Beach Unified School District implemented a fourth Costa VP position to increase efficiency.

“It’s been great for me because I can focus on things I really need to be doing now that I have an extra set of hands to pitch in,” Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said.
Ramos is a former teacher and counselor from Hawthorne Math and Science Academy. She has a bachelors degree in history and a masters in education.

“My primary goal for this coming school year is to learn as much as I can about the culture of Costa and everything that comes with it,” Ramos said.

Ramos’ position involves working with the visual and performing arts department, school counselors and managing data analysis such as standardized testing results.
“We can do a better job on certain areas now because we have more people that can look deeper in to these various issues,” Dale said.

At Acadiana High School, Shaw was the English Department chairman and coached both football and baseball.

“I feel excited and blessed to be VP of the best school in the country,” Shaw said. “I am beginning to truly understand what it means to be a Mira Costa Mustang.”
Shaw is in charge of student activities and will be working with the English Department and the athletics programs.

“Shaw and Ramos have been quick learners in their new positions,” Superintendent Dr. Michael Matthews said. “I have already seen several examples of them learning about student life at Costa. I believe we have selected two strong leaders.”
