With the spooky, dark, and creepy theme of Halloween also comes laughter and smiles. The Halloween costume contest celebrated by rewarding students for their creative costumes.

ASB held its annual Halloween costume contest during nutrition on Oct. 31. Students entered themselves in specific costume categories, and the winners received giftcards as prizes.

“Halloween is a fun day, and we try to do fun events on campus in hopes of getting everyone to participate,” ASB advisor Lisa Claypoole said.

ASB students chose winners from 20 categories including Best Overall, Best in each grade, Scariest, Best Couple, and more.

“I was happy with the number of students who dressed up and impressed by their creativity,” Claypoole said. “I hope to increase participation next year, especially with the freshman class.”

Teachers Nancy Geczi and Adam Geczi won Best Couple as Carl and Russel from the Pixar movie “Up.” They were chosen for their creativity as well as their attention to detail.

“I looked online and found some cool decorations for the costumes and decided to have a lot of fun with it,” Nancy Geczi said. “It is always fun to dress up on Halloween, and Mr. Geczi loves being my accessory.”

Junior Valentina Marmol won Best Junior costume for her outfit as an inflatable baby. Marmol found the inflatable jumpsuit in her garage and added accessories such as pigtail braids and a stuffed monkey. Marmol was awarded with a $10 Chipotle gift card.

“I had so much fun making my costume,” Marmol said. “Seeing people laugh at my costume in the halls all day was definitely the highlight of dressing up.”

Another faculty group that was involved was the office secretaries. Peggy Forseth, Heather Hoffman, Jan Norris, Cindy Gardner, Joanne Fryml, Shelly Moses, Alice Wise and Christine Schiraldi earned Best Teacher Group award for their creative outfits as Rosie the Riveters.

“I am glad that we are getting everyone to participate in events and competitions,” Chavers said. “When everyone gets involved, it makes it that much more fun.”
