Editor’s Note: While at Costa, we must leave everything on the field

As the senior varsity football players stepped on their home turf for the final time this past Friday, the stands were empty, barren and hushed. I have only one guess as to why: Halloween?

I deeply regret, as it was my last ever home high school football game, not being present last Friday night. It truly saddens me that I will never again be able to watch the team take Cooper field as a Costa student. I would hope that most Costa seniors feel the same remorse and have put the same emphasis on the importance of supporting our athletic teams throughout their high school experience.

However, this gives me the opportunity to look ahead as well.

I know, when I return from college next year, I will be sitting in those bleachers at Waller Stadium, cheering on my Mustangs louder than the entire Rage Cage. And do you know why? Because I bleed green and gold and always will.

For the rest of my life, I will always take pride in being a Mustang. Costa has provided me with far more than an award-winning education; this high school has given me a home.

Whether it’s sitting in the freezing cold under the Friday night lights, working in La Vista until 2 a.m., or practicing with my lacrosse team until we are all ready to keel over, Mira Costa has supplied me with enough stories to tell for decades to come. I can only imagine, 50 years from now, telling my grandkids about all the adventures I had while at Costa; I’m sure they will both giggle and cringe at my tales.

From blackouts to Homecoming, Costa football has played a large role in my Friday nights. “Boom Shaka Laka” has become a household expression. So, thank you Costa football for providing me with not only school spirit, but also lots of stories to share.

By the way, I better see every Costa student at Redondo Union tonight, cheering on our ‘Stangs during their final game of the season.
