Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium became a home of music for fans of The 1975 on Wednesday November 19 as the band took the famed stage for the US leg of their tour. Donned in their casual all-black outfits, the band made the night extremely memorable.

After releasing their single “Chocolate” in their “Music for Cars” EP, band members Matthew Healy, Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann, and George Daniel gained much deserved fame and developed an incredibly strong fan base. Having supported bands like the Neighbourhood, Muse, and the Rolling Stones, The 1975 are proven veterans of the alternative music scene.

After bands Cruisr and Young Rising Sons opened for them, The 1975 stepped on stage. With their signature five white, glowing rectangles behind them, the band lit up the stage.

Healy made his way across the stage with ease, tossing his hair around from side to side and taking swigs of wine he had brought on stage in between songs. Healy’s character glowed on stage and made the performance even more intimate. He danced and sang with swagger, dominating the stage with his presence. Healy not only exuded confidence, but emotion. His personal connection to the lyrics he sang made the show even more entertaining and heartfelt.

The 1975 created an exciting atmosphere in the venue, unsurpassed by what any other band could have done with a sold-out show like theirs. They spent the entire night performing to each person as if the show was theirs and theirs only by performing on stage with very strong emotion.

With Daniel lighting up a cigarette onstage and then handing it off to Healy, the band itself stayed calm onstage which in turn calmed the audience during specific parts of the show, including slow songs. They continued with on with the tracks and rolled through them, with soft lyrics that evoked an emotional connection from nearly everyone in the crowd.

Though many of the attendees were teen girls, there were people of all ages and gender at the show. The fact that the 1975’s music can unite such different people further attests to their musical skill, and their concert only confirmed that.

Healy was obviously having a great time performing on stage, even going as far flipping his hair to the music. It was jovial to see him getting into the lyrics, and truly feeling the words he sang, and fans at the venue could feel that .

All band members performed to the crowd, their music completely filling up the venue. As fans danced in the back and others pushed to be closer to the band, there was definitely a feeling of unanimous love for the headlining band.

The 1975 delivered an exceptionally emotional and therefore entertaining performance in the Hollywood Palladium. They kept fans enthralled throughout their entire set through spoken thanks and visible happiness, which made for a great night.

The 1975 will continue to tour throughout the US and Europe.
