Here’s The Deal

As the Internet continues to become more prevalent in teenagers’ lives, teens have developed new ways to use social media. Junior Priya Chatwani has taken advantage of these growing innovations by putting her own interesting twist on a new Instagram account which she calls @dealsfrompriya.

About a month ago, Chatwani decided to create an Instagram account where she posts deals and sales going on in the South Bay area for herself and others to use.

“I like using social media, but I wanted to try something new,” Chatwani said. “I felt like this would be a good place to start because finding good deals is what I love to do, and I want to help other people.”

Currently, Chatwani does not have a specific type of deal that she posts on her account. However, she spends her time searching for a vareity of bargains, like Jamba Juice smoothies, Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Coffee Bean drinks. She will alert her followers by posting photos to her Instagram account. Over the years, Chatwani has found herself searching for discounts off of her favorite goods. She realized an easy way to share her deals would be through Instagram.

“I have always loved getting a good deal, and my friends always ask me how I am able to find them,” Chatwani said. “I wanted to share my finds with people in a simple way through scoial media.”

“I really enjoy finding deals, and I wanted to share my passion with other people,” Chatwani said. “I think I have created a more unique take on the typical social media usage.”

As of now, she has done little to circulate information about her growing account. When she first created the account, she went to her personal Instagram and followed all of her personal follwers.

“Following people with my new account was a great way to publicize the @dealsfrompriya account,” Chatwani said. “Although not everyone followed me back.”
Chatwani decided to use Instagram instead of another social media program because she wanted to give her followers both a description and picture of the deals she finds.

“People will come up to me at school and tell me that my @dealsfrompriya account is really funny,” Chatwani said. “But, the best part is when people who follow me back actually use the deals I post.”

Chatwani currently has 80 followers on her @dealsfrompriya account. A majority of the sales that Chatwani has posted so far are deals about food, but she has also posted deals for car washes and amazon.com.

“Priya’s Instagram account is really easy for me to use,” junior Erin McCarthy said. “I went to California Pizza Kitchen, and I was able to get a free plate and $10 off a $40 purchase thanks to Priya’s account.”

Even though Chatwani currently has no plans to create other social media accounts to help share the bargains she finds, she is dedicated to developing her @dealsfrompriya Instagram account to deliver the best possible sales in the area and quality to her @dealsfrompriya followers.

“I think that if I received more followers and more responses on my Instagram posts than I do right now, I would consider opening @dealsfrompriya to other social networking sites, like Twitter,” Chatwani said. “Because I am so busy with other commitments like schoolwork, I think that one social media account is enough for now.”
