The Mira Costa College and Career Center has recently started inviting college student ambassadors to Costa in order to provide students with different perspectives on each university.

During the CCC College ambassador visits, students from universities around the world come to Costa as ambassadors speaking on topics ranging from admissions to student life.

“Students should come hear from the ambassadors if they are considering applying or attending that university,” CCC counselor Caryn Ramirez said. “This way Costa students can get an inside perspective.”

College ambassador and Costa alumni Adam Gerard visited Costa on Jan. 8 to represent Yale University.

“Hopefully, students can worry less about the transition to college if they speak to others who have gone through the same process,” Gerard said. “As an ambassador, at Costa in particular, I addressed how Costa prepared me for Yale and encouraged students to apply.”

Each university’s ambassador program decides if it wants to send a student to Costa, and the CCC schedules a date for the ambassador to come once the university contacts them. The ambassadors talk about their school’s admission process, their current major, what they like about their school and they answer questions.

“College ambassador visits are a good way for current Mira Costa students to find out about schools on a more personal level,” CCC counselor Judy Park said.

Costa students can find details about upcoming ambassador visits in the daily bulletin or at the CCC. Students can sign up for ambassador talks on Naviance.

“We will continue to welcome any college student ambassadors in order to benefit Costa students with a new perspective on universities,” College and Career specialist Christine Schiraldi said.
