Video – Mira Costa boys basketball defeats Culver City, 63-29

The boys’ basketball team took on the Culver City Centaurs in the second round of the Pacific Shores Tournament on Wednesday, looking to improve their early season record to 2-0. The Mustangs did not meet much of a challenge, winning the game, 63-29, at Fisher Gym.

Junior small forward Quenton Jackson carried the team for a second straight game, scoring 19 points, with ten in the second half. Culver City held its own in the first half, keeping the game close in the first quarter, 10-6, and at halftime, 27-18. Both teams quite literally struggled to keep their footing in the game, as both the ball and the floor had little grip, causing a flurry of sloppy turnovers in the first half. However, both teams adjusted, and the pace picked up in the second half, leading to a Mustang win.

“We collectively as a team just came together,” Jackson said. “We played defense, we stuck together on offense, and it worked out for us in the end.”
