On Monday May 4, it was announced by the California Department of Education that Mira Costa High School and Manhattan Beach Middle School are two of 373 schools in California to have received the Gold Ribbon School Award.

This title is awarded based off of ability to meet newly-founded common core curriculum standards, and was established this year to award middle and high schools with exemplary programs in English, Science, and Mathematics.

“I’m very proud that both schools were able to receive this award,” MBUSD Superintendent Dr. Michael Matthews said. “It is one more recognition for our excellent schools.”

The award ceremony to commemorate both schools on their achievement is set to be held on May 22 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego.

“I’m very pleased that we qualified for this and that we’re able to be recognized,” Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said.
