Boys water polo wins against Palos Verdes 8-7

Mira Costa’s boys water polo team won its home game Wednesday against Palos Verdes 8-7 in one of the closest Bay League games of the season. The game ended on a last minute goal from junior set guard Lucas Brannan.

Junior attacker Christian Thornton helped the Mustangs get a strong start by racking up three goals in the first half. The second half was a back and forth battle, and in the closing minutes of the game, The ball fell to Brannan who sent the ball into the top corner of the goal.

“Today was one of our closest games of the season,” senior set player Finn Pardon said. “Even though we weren’t in our best form, it was great for the team to come together and get the win.”

The Mustangs remain undefeated in Bay League at 4-0 and have an overall record of 9-4. They will next play in the South Bay Tournament at home on Friday and Saturday. According to Brannan, the game was closer than the team would’ve liked it to be, but they will get more chances in this weekends tournament.

“Today wasn’t our best game,” Brannan said. “However, we will get another chance to play them in this weekend’s tournament.”
