Mira Costa’s girls junior varsity tennis team, which played in place of Costa’s varsity team, swept Inglewood 18-0 in a non-Bay League match at Inglewood High School on Tuesday.
Sophmore singles player Karne Pen stood out by dominating her first game, winning 6-1, and continued strong, sweeping her next two games 6-0. Junior singles Talia Horrow played an impressive first game and won 6-0, and played strong to win her next two games 6-0 and 6-1.
“Inglewood doesn’t have the strongest tennis team, and today’s game was more about sportsmanship,” coach Joe Casulli said. “The team did extremely well during Tuesday’s match, and I am proud of how good the team has gotten.”
The Mustangs are currently 6-2 in Bay League and 19-4 overall. The team’s next match is a non-Bay League match against Chadwick High School in a home game on Thursday. According to Pen, Thursday’s match should be interesting since we haven’t played Chadwick yet this season.”
“Although Chadwick has two very accomplished singles players on their team we should still do great against them,” Pen said. “We are always excited to play a new team, and we can’t wait to play on Thursday.”
