Lacrosse paintballs for team bonding

Teamwork is a huge part of all sports and especially in lacrosse. It makes it easier for teammates to communicate amongst each other, giving them a clear advantage over their opponent.

To implement teamwork, the head coach of the boys lacrosse team, Aaron Karsh, organized a team retreat for varsity and junior varsity. They went paintballing as a team building exercise.

“We wanted to take the guys on a team bonding trip,” Karsh said. “They had a great time last year and lacrosse makes for great team building.”

Paintball’s focus on teamwork and strategy translates directly into sports and created an enjoyable experience for the lacrosse team. The paintball groups were split into teams that would be going against each other.

“It was a great idea from the coaches,” sophomore Midfielder Alejandro Ruiz said. “It was a really fun experience and I enjoyed playing with my teammates.”

Last year, the team went to Hollywood Sports where they played together in multiple paintball games in order to encourage both teamwork and communication, which are both necessary for lacrosse.

“Paintball really bonded us together as a team,” sophomore Midfielder Phillip Wah said. “After that it was like we had known each other for longer than we really had.”

It was also an opportunity for the people on the team to get to know each other on a more personal level outside of lacrosse. This gave the teammates stronger chemistry and boosted morale.

“It was a really fun experience,” midfielder Miles Choromanski said. “I was able to spend time with my teammates and I can’t wait to do it again this year.”

This exercise helped make bonds stronger which could lead to stronger performances on the field. According to Karsh, the primary goal is to do this and make the team more trusting to one another.

“Team paintballing was a fun experience and really made the team stronger just before the season started.” sophomore Attacker Zach Horowitz said.
